Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University was established in 1986 by the Government of Gujarat as a public university. The university was named after Hemchandracharya, a famous Gujarati poet and scholar who lived in the 12th century. Initially, the university started with only 10 colleges affiliated to it, but over the years, the number of colleges has increased significantly. Today, HNGU has more than 250 affiliated colleges offering various courses in different fields of study.
