Gujarat Vigilance Commission
The Gujarat Vigilance Commission (GVC) is an independent statutory body established by the Gujarat State Government to investigate corruption and malpractices in public services. The Commission was established under the Gujarat Vigilance Commission Act, 2003, and is responsible for ensuring transparency, accountability, and good governance in the state of Gujarat.
The GVC has the power to investigate any act of corruption or malpractice by public servants, including officers and employees of the state government, public sector undertakings, and local bodies. The Commission can initiate its own investigation or act on a complaint made by a citizen, and has the power to summon witnesses, obtain documents, and take any other steps necessary to carry out its investigation.
The GVC also plays an important role in preventing corruption by promoting transparency and accountability in the public sector. The Commission conducts awareness campaigns and training programs for public servants and citizens to promote ethical behavior and prevent corruption.
The Gujarat Vigilance Commission is headed by a Chief Vigilance Commissioner, who is appointed by the state government for a fixed term of five years. The Commission also has a team of officers and staff to assist it in carrying out its functions.
