Dilip Shanghvi
Dilip Shanghvi is an Indian businessman and the founder of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, one of India's largest pharmaceutical companies. Shanghvi was born on October 1, 1955, in Amreli, Gujarat, India.
After completing his education in commerce, Shanghvi started his career by working at his father's wholesale generic drugs business. In 1982, he founded Sun Pharmaceutical Industries with a capital of just INR 10,000 (approximately USD 200 at the time). The company started as a maker of psychiatric drugs but soon expanded to other areas of medicine.
Under Shanghvi's leadership, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries has become one of India's largest pharmaceutical companies with a presence in more than 150 countries. The company is known for its innovative drug delivery systems and has received numerous awards for its contributions to the pharmaceutical industry.
Shanghvi is also known for his philanthropic activities. In 2015, he pledged to donate 2/3 of his wealth to charity, making him one of the biggest donors in India. He has also established the Shantilal Shanghvi Foundation, which supports various social causes in India.
