Akshardham Temple, Gandhinagar
Akshardham Temple is a Hindu temple located in Gandhinagar, the capital city of Gujarat, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan and was built in 1992 by the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), a Hindu organization.
The temple is known for its stunning architecture and intricate carvings, which depict scenes from Hindu mythology and history. The temple complex spans over 23 acres and includes a main temple, a prayer hall, a garden, a cultural center, and a research center.
The main temple of Akshardham is a massive structure made of pink sandstone and is surrounded by a large water body known as the Sahajanand Sarovar. The temple is adorned with intricate carvings, including 200 stone elephants, 148 domes, and over 2,500 sculptures.
The prayer hall of the temple is known as the Akshar Hall and can accommodate up to 6,000 people. It is decorated with beautiful murals and paintings depicting scenes from Hindu mythology and the life of Lord Swaminarayan.
The temple also has a cultural center known as the Sahajanand Darshan, which showcases a series of exhibitions on Indian culture, history, and spirituality. The research center of the temple houses a library and archives that document the history and teachings of Lord Swaminarayan.
